Rhythm: ♫♩

Here are a few exercises for practicing a simple “down, up, down” picking pattern. It is important to pay close attention to the direction of your picking when practicing this. The idea is that you should be able to play this rhythm pattern any time in any situation without having to think about it. This is a fun and easy way to develop consistent and accurate picking technique.

You will have much better results if you practice these exercises with a metronome! The horse shoe shaped symbol is for a down-stroke and the v symbol is for an up-stroke.
